Thanks for this one! Been looking for quite some time.
I'll give this one a try. Thanks!
I might have done some bad expectations management regarding Kagan' s recording of the Sonatas and Partitas. For me this is a wonderful recording because of its pathos, of its melancholy of the huge amount of suffering it contains, having been recorded by a man who knew he would soon have to die. I find it extremely moving how Kagan sometimes indulges, as in the third movement of the second sonata, as if he wanted to make the music last longer. Having said this, the recording is far from perfect: Kagan' s intonation sometimes falters, his tone is not Szeryng' s or Milstein's, so, if you are looking for a faultless, stately reading the way to go is probably not this one. But if you are looking for a truly moving recording, this one is the best I know.
Thank you Cham! Okay, I'll listen with open ears and just see what happens...
Thank you Cham. This is deep moving music -along with the cello suites, some of the most profound composed in the Baroque period, IMO. I will give this a listen soon. THANKS!
I am looking forward to listening. Thanks,
Thank you very much.I've bee looking for it. Is apex edition the same as Erato(1989)?
@aplav: same recording
