Fabio Biondi (more information at: http://www.europagalante.com/fabio_biondi.php) plays a violin by Goffredo Cappa from 1690 (probably used for this recording) and a 1766 Carlo Ferdinando Gagliano.

Thanks my friends! What I love in this recording of the Quattro Stagioni is the unequalled (for me) brio and joy that the playing projects, without the excesses of Antonini / Il Giardino Armonico, but also the excessively good manners of Standage / Pinnock / The English Concert, which continued a tradition of a very gentle and harmonious Vivaldi started by the Musici.
I'd be cuorious to hear your opinion on this recording, after you'll have had the chance to listen to them.

Well ... First impressions: mixed feelings, to be honest. It has some exciting moments, no question about that, but I kept wondering if Stokowski had come back dressed as a HIPpy and taken on Vivaldi instead of Bach for a change (actually, he did record the Seasons, but we'll let that pass ;-)).
I don't mean it's the same sort of romanticising, but they do seem to take an awful lot of liberties with the music, at least in comparison to what I'm used to hearing. But who knows, it may well be in line with the written score, and it's just the playing convention that's being challenged here?
Anyway, I'll give it another listen and do a little comparison with the "legendary" Loveday/Marriner/ASMITF recording and the "classic" Accardo one (if I can find it - I could have sworn I have it somewhere! ;-( ).

@Anchusa: many thanks for your comment my friend! I think what I find so refreshing in this reading is exactly that it challenges the Vivaldian stereotypes established with his re-discovery by the Musici and upon which especially the British (HIP or non-HIP) have, it seems to me, built up. It doeas so with great taste and a very credible "theatrical" element to the performance.
