Thank you CHAM for your beautiful contributions especially this one. I am having to re-learn the joys of classical music from which my love of music began. Thank you fir being so patient with me but I am most anxious to learn and most appreciative of your patience too.
PEACE always
@HF: hi there! Long time no see (my fault, I know)! I'm curious: what makes you so enthusiastic about this release in particular? I didn't know there where many Karlowicz fans around...maybe a few Danczowska aficionados...due to her recordingd with Krystian Zimerman on DG...
Well, I AM impressed. I wasn't aware of this recording at all!
I would rate Danczowska in the top five of Polish violinists, as some names like Konstanty Kulka or Krzysztof Jakowicz seem to have become less active lately.
Still, probably the best performance of this concerto is with Konstanty Kulka with Witold Rowicki conducting.
There is more information on Danczowska here: http://www.culture.pl/pl/culture/artykuly/os_danczowska_kaja
Google translate does a pretty lame job, but you should get the idea.
If you will excuse my shameless self-promotion, there is another recording of the concerto with Ilya Kaler (he records for Naxos), also Antoni Wit and with the National Philharmonic Orchestra on my blog here:

This is a radio broadcast recording, so it's not CD quality, but it will give you a comparison.
I will also upload other recordings of the concerto... sometime in the future...
Thanks for this treat!
p.s. The Serenade (op. 2) is an early work by a 20 year old Karłowicz. It is more or less obviously patterned after serenades by Tchaikovsky and (maybe) Mozart. What is more fun, however, is to trace pieces of the Serenade in his later, more mature works.
It's unusual to see the Serenade coupled with the Violin Concerto, though. They don't really fit together musically.
@Sandflyer: thanks for your interesting comments. The violinists you mention are names which I've heard of, but never had the chance to listen to. Another Polish violinist whose (mainly past) records always gets appreciative words, but are very hard to find is Wanda Wilkomirska. If you have any information about Polish resources from where her records, or records by Kulka and Jakowicz can be obtained (I mean purchased, not just downloaded), they would be greatly appreciated.
Well, I have Wiłkomirska playing the Karłowicz Concerto and Szymanowski's 1st Concerto (recorded in the 1960's, I guess).
That one is long out of print and that's the one I was planning to put up on my blog.
You can find some recordings by Kulka here. There is a little icon for the English version of the web site in the bottom right hand corner. (sorry for the long link):
http://merlin.pl/Konstanty-Andrzej-Kulka_Konstanty-Andrzej-Kulka/browse/search/4.html?offer=O&sort=rank&person=Konstanty+Andrzej+Kulka&phrase=Konstanty+Andrzej+Kulka
Item no. 3 in the list has both Wiłkomirska and Kulka. I would guess Wiłkomirska plays the Wieniawski Cto. and Kulka the Karłowicz. I don't have that CD.
Item no. 4 is a newer recording of the Karłowicz Cto. with Kazimierz Kord conducting, and I don't really like him as a conductor.
Thanks Cham. I am eager to learn more about the music of this composer.
@Sanflyer: many thanks for the links provided.
The music of Karlowicz is a hidden treasure, unless for me, I've been discovering his fascinating music since his tone poems, thanks chamaeleo for another step in my knowlege of him!!!Wonderfull Post
@Horacio: I am very grateful for your kind comments Horacio. I also find Karlowicz's concerto highly enjoyable. There' s an even greater recording of it at Sanflyer' s blog (http://sandflyer-sapp.blogspot.com/)
Regards.
