Johanna Martzy (more information at: http://meetinginmusic.blogspot.com/2009/04/johanna-martzy.html) used to play on three splendid instruments, owned by the Swiss collector Daniel Tchudi, whom she eventually married: the 1733 "Ex-Huberman, Ex-Kreisler" Stradivari, which was not used for the present recording, since Tchudi acquired it in 1956, while the recording dates from 1954 and 1955.
The two other violins played by Martzy are a Carlo Bergonzi of 1733, and a Pietro Guarneri of Venice of 1747, previously owned by Carl Flesch.

Thanks very much for this chamaeleo. I didn't know about Johanna Martzy, and didn't have this Starker version of the suites. Thanks to you I am going to enjoy both.

She was an extraordinary player, I have Brahms, Mendelssohn and Dvorak Concerto with her.She plays as a man, like Maud Powell. They are one of the best feminin violinists!
